About this postcard
A table condiment set is a collection of small containers, holding spices or seasonings, grouped together on a single stand. The simplest and most common set consists of a ‘salt and pepper’ pair, joined on a single stand made of various materials (wood, glass, metal, ceramic, a combination of several materials, etc.). In restaurants, one most commonly finds the ‘salt-pepper-mustard’ trio, or the ‘salt-pepper-toothpick’ trio, or sometimes the ‘salt-pepper-oil-vinegar’ quartet. Salt and pepper shakers generally have the same capacity, which amounts to 50 g of salt and 20 g of pepper. Oil and vinegar cruets usually have a capacity of 0.16 to 0.20 dm³. The two cruets may form a single item: the ‘guédoufle’. Source
