Malaysian cuisine is a generic term for all the cuisines found in Malaysia, reflecting the multi-ethnic make-up of its population. Malay cuisine, on the other hand, refers to the culinary traditions of the majority ethnic group. It is the result of a fusion of local influences, mainly Indian, Javanese and Chinese, to which are added influences from local ethnic groups in Sabah and Sarawak, from Orang Asli to Peranakan. Not forgetting the contribution of earlier migrations, then colonial ones, which brought British, Portuguese, Dutch and Thai touches to Malay cuisine.
